Shipping Requirements

Please follow these guidelines to ensure safe arrival of empties and free shipping through the ERS Easy Parcel Ship Program.

  1. Locate a sturdy box that meets these size and weight requirements: Combining the length (longest side) plus the girth (2 x width) plus the height (2 x height), your shipping box should be less than 84 inches, and the box should not weigh more than 40 pounds when full.
  2. Pack cartridges, cell phones, laptops, and small electronics using the 20-20 Rule:
    1. 20 pounds of lasers or mixed product that are posted on the Buyback List
    2. or at least 20 individual units of one type of product (inkjets or lasers) that are posted on the Buyback List
      The shipping cost may be deducted from your account if your shipment does not meet the qualifications of the 20-20 Rule. Additionally, ERS reserves the right to charge a $1 per-unit disposal fee for cartridges, cell phones, laptops, and small electronics received that do not appear on the Buyback List. Please save us and yourself the expense by not shipping cartridges, cell phones, laptops, and small electronics that do not appear on the Buyback List.
  3. To avoid damage during shipping, fill any extra space with newspaper or bubble wrap and securely tape your shipper box closed.
  4. Apply a preprinted shipping label to each box and deliver boxes to the nearest UPS drop-off location. Call 1-800-742-5877 or visit www.ups.com for locations.

Note: Please do not call UPS for a pickup. UPS charges a mandatory fee when called to pick up packages which cannot be waived or reimbursed by ERS.

Laser Cartridges

Use original packaging including end caps when available. Package at least 20 pounds (about 8 laser cartridges) together in a box to qualify for free shipping. Box should not exceed 40 pounds. If you have 100 or more laser cartridges that appear in the Buyback List contact a representative to schedule a free pickup.

Inkjet cartridges

Use original packaging when possible. Otherwise, wrap each cartridge in newspaper or place in a separate zip-closure bag being careful not to touch the print head or circuit board. Send at least 20 inkjets in each shipment

Damaged cartridges net zero value. Please be sure to add newspaper or bubble sheets to cushion the materials during shipping.

Small Electronics

Use original packaging when possible. Otherwise, wrap each small electronic in newspaper or place in a separate zip-closure bag. Send at least 20 small electronics in each shipment

Shipping

Free shipping is available through prepaid UPS labels. These labels are mailed from the ERS to the address you indicated during ordering. Remember, if you have 100 or more laser cartridges that appear in the Buyback List contact a representative to schedule a free pickup.

ERS is not responsible for the deletion of confidential data on the products. You are responsible for all confidential data that may be stored on the products. Before you ship the products for recycling ERS strongly recommends that you:

  • back up or transfer all your data prior to deletion
  • remove any removable media such as CD’s diskettes, or PC Cards
  • use a secure file deletion utility which ensures that the data on the hard disk drives and any other storage devices in the products cannot be recovered by successively writing binary ones and zeros over files to be deleted
